Street life
Just back from Shanghai where I managed not only to take some good photos, but also stuff myself silly on xiaolongbao (Shanghai dumplings), niurou mian (noodles with beef) and plenty of other tasty treats. It was a great trip, and the first time I've really 'seen' in black and white (the city is so grey and smokey to begin with, it seems only natural to process everything this way).
The trip was also notable for the fact that I had time before I left Tokyo to re-read some of my old books on Shanghai and its history. I was able to pick out addresses from Stella Dong's "Shanghai: The rise and fall of a decadent city" and get a good feeling for what the whore of the orient must have been like seventy or eighty years ago.
You can check out the photos in the gallery, or on my flickr site.
