Online Photoshop

It looks as though Adobe will release the online version of Photoshop by the end of the year. While it will only be in beta, it is bound to attract a lot of attention, especially among those who have held off buying Photoshop because of its rather hefty price tag. For those of us who already use Photoshop or Lightroom on a daily basis, its unlikely to provide tools that we don't already have. Nevertheless, it will still be interesting to see how Adobe adapts their flagship product for the web. Hopefully, Adobe's entry into the world of online photo editing won't kill off the other free photo editing tools already out there.

I think Google docs is leaving these firms little choice - they're going to have to go online with some sort of version of their software, and for Adobe it makes sense to stretch the Photoshop brand. I wonder if they have some sort of Dreamweaver backend online software in the works as well.

It would be good to see a full-featured version of Photoshop online, but I'm sure they'll charge for it. It would be nice to have someone else processing power get slowed down for a change...

Well the beta of 'Photoshop Express' (as Adobe's calling it) has been released. The result is a bit of a mixed bag: the interface looks great and there are some great tools for those wanting to do rough and ready edits of their photos, On the downside the site is slow, clicking the back button won't work and the site comes with a licence agreement which will scare the pants off many users. I'll be posting a more detailed review soon.
