Smithy's code
Despite not having read either of the two books in question, I couldn't help having a chuckle at this article Reminds me of Borges...
Update (30th April) - You can read the message hidden in Justice Peter Smith's judgement here.

Galleries and IE
Thanks to Osterhaeslein who pointed out that none of the photo galleries were working in Internet Explorer. The problem (caused by Microsoft's 'Active Content Update') has now been fixed. If, for some strange reason, you are an IE user and have never heard of Firefox, you can download it here.

Lions and tigers and...pelicans? Oh my!
Did you know that a giraffe's tongue can be up to 50cm long? Of course you didn't!
I learnt this as well as many other useful facts while visiting Tama Zoo yesterday. Located just outside metropolitan Tokyo, I was expecting it to be a fairly small place with perhaps a handful of unhappy looking monkeys pacing up and down concrete cells. So imagine my surprise when I discovered the zoo was large and well kept, with a large variety of animals from all over the world. Who would have thought, eh?
You can see some of my new friends in a gallery, somewhat boldly entitled Nature. Over time, I'm also hoping to add photos from any future expedition to the wilds of Borneo or Kenyan safari.
Love those pink flamingos!

Tilt shift photography
There's been a bit of a buzz lately over at Boingboing about tilt shift photography. For those unfamiliar with this photographic technique (note to self: submit an entry to wikipedia) it involves blurring part of an image so that a real-life scene appears to be a scale model photographed with a macro lens. I first saw the technique last year while flipping through a Japanese photographic magazine. Since then, it seems to have become increasingly popular - some of my favorite examples are by Swiss photographer Gérard Pétremand.
Well, without further ado, here is my attempt:

Japan gallery
I've just added a new gallery to the site, this time of my Japan photos. It includes pictures taken in Tokyo, Kyoto and (most recently) Hiroshima. Please feel free to leave your comments about the new pics, as well as your thoughts about any of the other entries or photo galleries.
For those otaku with an interest in such things, all but one of the Japan images were taken with a Nikon D70s in RAW mode, but of course have been reduced in size and quality for the web.
